
Laser ablation is a specialist cleaning and restoration process which utilises the energy from a laser beam to quickly and gently remove contaminants and staining from the surface layer materials such as stone, brick, concrete and metal.
The energy is absorbed by the contaminant, causing it to undergo a ‘phase change’ from its solid state directly to a vapour, and thereby bypassing the liquid phase and avoiding creating a residue that might contaminate surrounding surfaces.
The types of contamination that can be removed have different evaporation temperatures than the original surface, and so by carefully selecting the correct parameters they can be safely removed without damaging the underlying layer.
